Elementary Educational Instructor (#2081)

Location: Barre, VT
Hours: Full Time

Job Description

Provide academic and skill instruction to elementary aged children in a tutorial program focused on crisis stabilization and transition to public school.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide two hours of structured tutoring to students K-6 using material and/or consultation from public school.  Design (as needed)  and implement academic curriculum and instruction appropriate to the needs of each student in the classroom.

  • Requisition necessary teaching materials and equipment, within the available budget.

  • Implement social and behavioral programming for each student in the classroom.

  • Develop positive and therapeutic working relationships with youth, families and staff.

  • Communicate well with all parties involved with the youth, both verbally and in writing.

  • Accept and respond to administrative and professional supervision.

  • Complete all Beckley Day Program and agency required paperwork completely and in a timely manner.

  • Work consistently within the mission of the program.

  • Follow and implement all Beckley Day Program and agency policies and procedures.

  • Willingness to learn de-escalation and passive restraint techniques.

  • Ability to restrain youth who are a danger to self or others.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by CYFS Tutorial and Education Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Experience:

Teaching experience with children with severe emotional and behavioral challenges or other mental health issues preferred.

 

Access to a safe, reliable and insured vehicle.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, with a teaching license in the area of elementary education grades K – 6 preferred. A Bachelor’s degree with extensive knowledge and experience in instructional specialization with teaching experience will be considered.
