Community Rehabilitation and Treatment

THE COMMUNITY REHABILITATION AND TREATMENT (CRT) PROGRAM has offices in Montpelier, Barre and Waterbury.  The effects of serious and persistent mental illness, sometimes coupled with institutionalization, create special challenges and needs for adults who seek services from the CRT Program.  WCMHS offers the following programs to this special group of consumers:

The CRT Outpatient Program provides a comprehensive set of Case Management and Counseling Services to consumers with long term, serious mental illness and those with co-occurring substance abuse issues.

The Rehabilitation Team provides community-based psychiatric rehabilitation.  Their goal is to help consumers gain the skills needed to become functioning community members. A group of paraprofessionals called Support Workers, are on-call to provide extra support or assistance on an as-needed basis.

The Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Program helps replace serious, mal-adaptive and life-threatening behaviors with new, more adaptive ones through the teaching of life skills.  Referrals to the program are made by WCMHS treatment staff, and admission into the program follows an in-depth diagnostic interview and orientation.

Sunrise Recovery Center offers a wide range of recovery based programs designed to enhance each client’s connectedness to the community and lead self-directed lives.

Green Mountain Rehabilitation Services concentrates on supporting clients seeking competitive employment, and working toward the goal of enhancing independence in the market place.

Residential Programs, ranging from group homes to individual apartments, provide housing supports, design activities which promote social interaction, personal development, and independent living skills.  Services are designed to enhance skills of the residents/tenants in taking care of themselves and to assist them in becoming more independent in their living environment.

Community Resource Development acts as a bridge between consumers and the community:

  • Developing a caring community that understands and accepts persons and mental illness and contributes to their well-being by fostering the Gather Volunteer Program, facilitating community relations and education, and promoting mental health.
  • Helping consumers develop a role in the natural community, building supports, associations and relationships, toward an improved quality of life.
  • Encouraging both family and consumer involvement, ownership of individual plans, self-direction, advocacy, rights, and peer support; addressing issues of stigma, inclusion, and social integration.
  • Managing housing projects that provide affordable and stable housing in the community.
