Location: Barre, VT
Summary of Position: Delivers ongoing community based treatment and supports for pregnant and parenting mothers (up to one year postpartum) experiencing a severe emotional disturbance and their families.
Experience: Two years of human service work with children and families preferred. Experience providing direct instruction and therapeutic services to women with challenging behaviors preferred and/or history of trauma. Possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle are required. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Delivers services to assist clients in gaining access to needed medical, social, educational, vocational, housing, financial and other services.
Maintain contact with other professional service providers for the purpose of case review or consultation regarding services to a specific client.
Provide for the delivery of services and interventions identified by the treatment team.
Assist in developing natural support networks for pregnant and parenting mothers experiencing a severe emotional disturbance and their families.
Assist program participants experiencing a severe emotional disturbance and their families in accessing community resources.
Provided in-home support to families in the postpartum period.
Participate in ongoing treatment team meetings when appropriate.
Work cooperatively with local hospitals, OBS/midwives, medication-assisted therapy programs, therapists, social rehabilitative services and other agencies providing services to participants experiencing a severe emotional disturbance and their families
Attend staff meetings at WCMH as required.
Plan and/or participate in weekly groups for postpartum parents.
Be or become Adult and infant CPR certified.
Problem solves and manage crisis.
Maintain on-going communication with service providers.
Be or become a certified birth doula, and work as such for up to 5 participants a year as such, providing birth and postpartum doula supports.
Ability to be on call 1-2 weeks a month
Knowledge of the history of birth, and women’s/feminist studies.
Expectation of ongoing trainings as provided by agency/program.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field preferred. Certified Birth and/or postpartum doula preferred. Certified Childbirth Educator preferred. 2 years working with pregnant and parenting mothers and their families.
