Summary of position: We are an innovative person-centered organization that has been providing support to individuals and families living in Central Vermont for over 50 years.  We support people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to live their best life, to be part of the community, to explore their dreams and achieve their goals. You will be part of a dynamic, caring team that promotes creativity and having fun.

A full-time benefited, day and occasional evening community support position.  Support will be provided to two individuals.  The first is a young woman who has many interests.  She would like to swim and go walking, visit museums, participate in Learning Collaborative workshops, visit hair and nail salons, and have support finding a job walking dogs.  On a few evenings, she would like support going to plays or baseball games.

10 hours a week will also be provided to a young man who needs transportation from work, practice honing his independent living skills, and motivation to stay physically fit.

The ability and desire to be active is a must. The support staff must be willing to go to the gym. An interest in sports is helpful.  The ideal candidate will have a sense of humor, flexibility, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy and respect towards all people.

About this position:

  • Have related experience providing direct support to individuals with a variety of support needs (behavioral, emotional, communication, self-care, mobility, etc.).
  • Possess the ability to work independently as well as with the team that supports the individual(s).
  • Record data and complete other documentation in an accurate, detailed and timely manner.
  • Collaborate and build positive relationships with team members, other support staff, and other appropriate individuals both inside and outside the agency as needed.
  • Preserve privacy, confidentiality and ensure dignity to assigned individual and all others.
  • Attend trainings, in-services, and/or conferences to assure professional growth as approved by supervisor.
  • Have a safe reliable vehicle.  Possess a clean driving record and valid driver’s license to transport individuals to community activities, appointments and meetings.
  • Adhere to all of Washington County Mental Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as required or assigned by your supervisor

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of ethical work practices, a sense of humor, and experience with technology such as Microsoft applications. Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred but not necessary.  Valid driver’s license, good driving record and safe, reliable, insured vehicle required.
